Girls Level 1

Ages 6 - 12 years
55 minute class, once a week
$86 per month 
(Based on four classes in a month. Actual number of classes in a month may vary.)

 

Class Goals

This class is for girls with no prior experience with gymnastics.  The age ranges from 6 to 12 years old.  The material covered in this class will include gymnastics event description and purpose, gymnastics vocabulary, and skill development along with strength conditioning and stretching.  Students will learn the most relevant body positions in the sport i.e. straight, hollow, tuck and pike as well as a wide range of skills and movement patterns.  They will gain the ability to execute these positions in static and dynamic settings.  Through conditioning and stretching students develop the strength and flexibility important to further their advancement.  Each weekly class is 55 minutes long and includes a 10 minute warm up, conditioning, and practice in two events.

  • Flexibility (warm up)
  • Pike sit touch toes
  • Straddle sit forehead touch floor
  • Left and right leg stride splits and middle splits
  • Bridge

 

Vault

  • Squat onto table
  • Run, hurdle onto springboard

 
Bars

  • Straight arm cast in support position
  • Pull-over
  • Squat onto 12" floor par
  • Sole circle dismount
  • Back hip circle
  • Low bar swing technique

 
Beam

  • Front support to straddle-cut mount
  • Right and left arabesque (hold for 5 seconds)
  • Walk forward and backward in releve on high beam
  • Stretch jump
  • Straddle jump dismount
  • Arabesque, passé, coupé, relevé positions
  • Kicks, ¼ pivot turns
  • Lever, needle kick, and ¾ handstand on low beam

 
Floor

  • Side and lunge cartwheels
  • Forward roll and backward roll
  • Straddle and split jumps
  • Kick to handstand
  • Chassé forward and sideways
  • Backbend to bridge down wall

 
Strength

  • 1 Pull-up
  • 5 Push-ups (good form)
  • 15 Tuck-ups on floor
  • 10 Candle-stick jumps

 
Trampoline

  • Straight jump, tuck jump, straddle jump, pike jump, full turn, seat drop (routine)
